Hello!!
Man, I have been horrible about writing in this blog this year! Over the next couple days I will be writing posts about some fun and exciting events I have done lately (AKA in the past couple of MONTHS!).
A little over a month ago, I got a promotion at work! I moved from being a Front Desk Supervisor to Accounting. The two jobs could not be more different from one another. At the front desk, you always had to be ready for the unexpected. Some days it would be just flat out dead. Other days you were running around like a chicken with its head cut off. The downfalls were that when it was slow, you literally had nothing to do but stand around and wait. Another thing about the Front Desk is you do not have a set schedule. You could be scheduled for any time of day, during any day of the week, all year long. Holidays off? Forget about. Home by 5? Maybe once or twice a month. You just never knew.
With going to accounting, I lost the person-to-person part of my job. I miss seeing my regular hotel guests and catching up, however I do not miss the angry guests we would always get. You would think that moving to accounting and dealing with people's money, I would get even more angry guests. Nope. My phone hardly ever rings. I work 45 hours a week and talk to maybe 1-2 guests a week. That's it. So easy from that aspect. I now also have a set schedule. I work from 7:30 to 4PM usually. I also have stuff to do all shift and so my days just fly by! Now that also plays into the downside of accounting. Due to the fact that I have paperwork that needs to be completed daily, it is a lot harder to get time off. However, my PTO days just approved, so I have a few days off in December and February. :)
Overall, I am enjoying my new position. I am surprised to learn that I can like a "paperwork" job, as much as a customer service job. It makes me happy that I have experienced two jobs while being at the Marriott, that I enjoy. Never know where life will take you... I certainly never saw myself as an accountant!
